You child's have had this attack due to possible slip disc or tight canal through which the nerves pass.

Avoid bending forwards or lifting weights. Apply hot packs to the affected region. Perform low back extension exercises and physiotherapy. Take pain killers and muscle relaxant medication.

Do get an Xray and MRI Of the lumbosacral spine for better understanding of the nerves and the need for surgery as required.
