Suggest Treatment For Tachycardia While Having Anxiety
Question: Hi doc,
I am male, 34 years old nudging 35. :)
I am a bit on the heavier side weighing 100kg, but reasonably fit to run 3km under 20 mins. But I have noticed that during my workouts, which are intense cardio workouts, my heart rate stays between 140- 175. Is this something to worry about? Should I cut down on cardio?
I have panic anxiety and I am on beta blockers and other medications for the same. I am worried if working out might cause heart problems in future
Please advise
Regards,
XXXX

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.
Tachycardia you're experiencing seems to be more related to anxiety than to excessive cardiac workout. Normally a trained athlete never develop tachycardia. This is why you shouldn't stop training.
If you were my patients I would recommend doing the following exams (to exclude any problems with your heart):
- Blood work including hormonal balance
- ECG
- Cardiac Echo
- Holter monitoring
- Stress test
If all the above mentioned exams will be normal than you have nothing to worry about.
Hope this will be of help!
Wish you health!
