Question: My daughter is 18 yrs old and suffering from OCD - look alike syndrome. Whenever she sees a person which she thinks influences her in a bad way she thinks she is becoming like her physically and her body becomes look alike of that person. This is tormenting her and she becomes panicky and seeks help. Please guide me on what to do as this her peak period of her life wherein she has to start building her confidence for her future life.

Brief Answer:
proper diagnosis; long-term treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.
I can understand your concerns for your daughter.

The first and foremost thing is the correct diagnosis of the illness. I hope that your daughter has been evaluated and assessed by a psychiatrist.

I would like to tell you some facts about OCD:

OCD is a relapsing disorder.

The course of illness is usually long but variable; some patients experience a fluctuating course, and others experience a constant one.

About 20 to 30 percent of patients have significant improvement in their symptoms, and 40 to 50 percent have moderate improvement. The remaining 20 to 40 percent of patients either remain ill or their symptoms worsen.

Also, Depression and anxiety can occur co-morbidly with OCD.

Therefore, it requires long-term treatment.

First thing for successful management of OCD is to try resist to Obsessions and compulsions and not follow them.

The treatment options include drugs as well as pychological treatment.

Your daughter has been taking Frext (fluvoxamine) and oxetol (oxcarbazepine).

Kindly mention what doses she has been taking and what other drugs have been used in treatment so that I can guide you in a better way.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks.
