Suggest Treatment For Swollen Lymph Node In The Neck

Question: My daughter has had a lymph node right side of neck, under the jaw, that's swollen and never goes down. It's been like that for about a year. Not growing. I showed it to a doctor last February and she said "she's fine". Now I'm not sure if she didn't feel it, or she thought it was nothing. A fewweeks ago I took her to the pediatrician because she was complaining about stinging eyes, and I showed it to him. He felt it, said its about 2cm and also he said he felt another swelled one on the other side. I don't believe it's grown , I think it's been the same size. It's movable when I feel it. The pediatrician said "no biggy, we need to watch it" and set her next appointment for 2 months. I'm scared. Is it common for kids to have bilateral swelled lymph nodes under the jaw/neck area for over a year? She's active, doesn't act sick, no fevers

Brief Answer:
Unless they start increasing in size you need not worry.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone very carefully through your query and understand your concerns. Unless the lymph nodes start enlarging, we would not get concerned. A single examine (by the pediatrician) cannot determine whether the size is increasing. Since you have been observing it far longer than the pediatrician, I rely more on your observation that on the comment by the pediatrician. But there is no doubt to the fact that you need to remain observant. You need not get worried. It is common for children to get infections. Such infection can get contained in the lymph nodes leading to swollen lymph nodes. Such things often happen when the child gets oropharyngeal infections or even due to common cold.

If the child is active and fine and if the lymph nodes do not enlarge, you do not need to get concerned.

Regards
