Question: The back of my throat looks sort of mottled to me and I can feel a sort of clicking when I swallow. my throat also feels a bit swollen and sometimes there is a burning sensation in the back of it as well. I am also getting some ear discomfort which fluctuates between a throbbing feeling and like a really thin needle is being pulled out of it. I am a smoker. How worried should I be?

Brief Answer:
Granular Pharyngitis. No cause for worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. The mottled appearance is most likely to be Granular Pharyngitis. This is very common.

2. If the ears are normal on examination, the pain is a refered sensation from the throat due to common nerve supply.

3. This is not how tobacco related lesions present. Routine anti allergic, mucolytic, anti inflammatory medication and medicated gargles should be enough to settle this.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
