Question: Hi there. I would like to ask you about my elderly 83 and half years old father who had recurrent lower cheek swelling that had occurred five times since XXXXXXX this year. The first episode occurred in XXXXXXX over his right lower cheek- soft, non tender, no redness , no associated tooth ache. No fevers. Resolved within 24 - 48 hours . Not sure if infection but got treated with seven days of keeled. The second episode (similar) occurred in July over left lower cheek. Since then has had monthly recurrences and got given short courses of amoxicillin and flatly for five to seven days. Had been to see dentist. Latest episode occurred two days ago over his right lower cheek again, dentist not so sure and thinks probably due to pressure effect as they seem to occur each morning on waking after he had been lying over the site of where swelling appears. No itchiness. No increase saliva. No peri orbital Edema associate. But I am not convinced that it is due to pressure alone. Can you help please.

Brief Answer:
It could be Submandibular salivary gland swelling.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, Welcome to HCM,

As per your description , it looks like Submandibular salivary gland swelling, which is enlarging due to recurrent infections.

You should take an X-ray to rule out Submandibular duct stone on both sides. If it is still not clear, CT Scan will confirm the diagnosis. Please attach/upload the picture for my review.

Please consult a General surgeon, get examined clinically and proceed accordingly.

Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions, I will clarify further.

Wish you good health.
Regards
