Suggest Treatment For Superficial Skin Infection Over The Face

default
Posted on Tue, 17 Jun 2014
Question: My face has broken out in some sort of rash. Parts of it are like tiny little blisters that weep a clear fluid and the other spots are like my skin has peeled away. These sots also seem to weep a clear fluid. I was recently treated for a staph infection on my hand and my face, possibly being MERSA. Does this sound like the infection has come back? I am unfortunately unable to send a picture.

Brief Answer:
Looks like skin infection, provide pictures

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I understand your concern regarding your skin problem and I hope I am able to help you in the same .
From the description that you have provided, it is very likely that you are developing a superficial skin infection which can again be a staph infection since you have recently recovered from the same.
I would advise you to start with topical application of an antibiotic agent as soon as possible. You can use something like mupirocin or neosporin twice daily. Avoid application of any other cream or oil over it .
It would have helped in confirmation of the diagnosis if you could click some close up pictures of the skin condition . If it is possible, then you can upload them here on this page . You can also mail them at YYYY@YYYY with heading as ref to Dr Geetika Paul .
Also please provide certain more details about the skin rash .
Since when have you developed this?
Any associated pain or itching or discomfort?
What all have you been applying over it?
Have you recently been using any new face wash or creams?

I am sure I will be able to help you more once you provide me the above details and the pictures .

I apologize but I am not able to do the picture thing! I have suffered from Impetigo about 5 years ago and I was in the ICU in 2012 for an unrelated problem. I do wonder if any of this has to do with Hereditary type issues; My Mom has struggled with serious infections for the last 5 years; To the point of having her Right leg amputated right below the knee.
As far as what I feel on my face is a lot of dryness, itching, pain, blistering and clear fluid weeping. I have used Muprocin but at this time I was given a different topical agent this time, I believe it was an antibiotic gel starting with a "C"
Anyway, thank you for your help; I know it is hard to help w/out pics!!

Brief Answer:
Impetigo face, take proper treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

You might have been treated with clindamycin or cortisone gel.
At present, according to the description you have provided, I can sense that you are again developing a superficial skin infection over the face.
You should start with proper cleaning of the affected areas followed by application of a topical antibiotic cream like neosporin or mupirocin over the affected areas .
You should not apply any other cream or oil over it .
Also you should avoid application of hair oil .
Avoid exposure to direct sunlight since it can increase the associated pain .
Cover up your face properly before going out in the sun .
It might just be a recurrence of impetigo over the face. I do not see any relation with your mother's illness. But just to be on the safer side, in case the infection still tends to persist or increase even on treatment , then you should surely see your local doctor. In some severe cases, culture from the lesions and antibiotics may be necessary .
