Suggest Treatment For Stretch Marks On Forearms

default
Posted on Thu, 16 Jun 2016
Question: Hi, for the past couple of months, I have noticed I have these horizontal indentations (ridges) running down the backs of my forearms, slightly red. They are somewhat sensitive if rubbed, and are becoming more predominant. Any ideas what could be causing this? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Striae or stretch marks most probably

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to HCM...

I read history and saw the photo you posted. After that I could conclude that most probably you are suffering from striae.Striae is a common skin condition, does not cause any significant medical problem; however, striae can be of significant distress to those affected. They represent linear dermal scars accompanied by epidermal atrophy. They occur in adolescent age commonly without any cause and that may be called striae juvenalis. In your case, there may be some cause. You consult the dermatologist for the perfect diagnosis. After thorough examination and investigations,he might come to some conclusion regarding the etiology.

Stretch marks can also occur from prolonged use of oral or topical corticosteroids and from anabolic steroids. They are also a feature of the disease Cushing's syndrome, where increased adrenal cortical activity i.e. excessive circulating cortisol is implicated in their development. They are seen more often in people with Marfan syndrome.

It is a benign condition, but there is a cosmetologic concern.

I would suggest...

- tretinoin gel application on the striae
- laser therapy by expert
- chemical peels
- vitamin E cap
- vitamin C tab
- avoidance of steroid intake and steroid application

I hope this would help you.

Thanks.
