Suggest Treatment For Stomach Pain, Bloating And Excessive Belching

Posted on Fri, 17 Apr 2015
Question: Hi I an 39 female had stomach pains and has lots of burping and bloating I had blood test done and all came back ok except ca19.9 was elevated at 29 over the labs 0-27 normal range.

I then had MRI which showed nothing abnormal in pancreas liver kidneys or gall bladder.

My question is why would I have such a high reading and what if when they repeat it in two weeks time it is higher still? I have read it can be a precursor to pancreatic tumours coming within 2 years and I am worried sick

Brief Answer:
Ca19-9 not significantly elevated...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history and understood your concerns.

Your Ca19-9 level is not significantly elevated. Normally, the upper limit is up to 37; while the upper limit of your lab is 27. However, even within the normal range of your lab, the ca19-9 is still not considered to be significantly elevated.

It is true that Ca19-9 is a tumoral factor for possible pancreatic tumors.

Your actual clinical presentation with stomach pain and burping is significant for acid reflux/GERD. If I was your caring doctor would advise to run upper endoscopy for further evaluations.

Hope it was of help! Let me know if I can be of further help!

Thank you so would you bother to even get the ca19 done again? It is causing me enormous anxiety to even be marginally outside the normal range?
