default
Posted on Tue, 6 Jan 2015
Question: I have sore ribs and also central upper chest pain. Severe nausea bouts. Throat sensation is dreadful. Can't stand it. Do suffer gastritis too. Can't take ppi or ranitidine as heart plays me up. Heart plays up lots...scares me. It's obviously all linked. Fed up. Dizzy and low BP anyways. Instead of finding out what's up they labelled me m.e and anxious. Anxious is one thing I am not. Help please

Brief Answer:
need to see cardiologist

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for your question. It would be very rare for someone of your age to have heart disease. However, your symptoms are concerning for heart problems. I suggest that you see a cardiologist for further testing. Heart disease needs to be ruled out conclusively before anyone labels you "anxious". Heart disease can cause both nausea and dizziness. Please try to get to see a cardiologist as soon as possible.

Thanks. I saw cardiologist and he said echo ok plus ecg etc..this was last year. The hospital aren't great. It's the only one here. I had to report a doctor calling me out of hours. They then broke data protection plus a long list of dreadful attitudes etc. I'm labelled mental health by them..so I saw mental health and they said I ok just normal where being upset with health and hospital concerned. I can't have an independent review as by law here a second opinion can be from same hospital. Lawyer can't help. I lost kids to ex as I in and out of hospital. I have gastritis and tietzes which won't go. I get headaches and I'm shattered all the time. It's just ridiculous. Sadly I actually begged someone to help figure this out..they smiled! So I'm left frustrated. I know panic attacks..I get them before flying. It's different. I can't tolerate medications as they drop BP. I don't know if throat linked to chest heart or stomach. But then they caused damage with a camera last year so maybe it's linked.

Brief Answer:
Trial of Sucralfate

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

I am so sorry that you are having so much trouble obtaining good health care.

I have a few suggestions for you to try and get some relief. Ask your doctor for a prescription for sucralfate. It blocks stomach acid and is not related to PPIs or ranitidine. It comes in tablets or liquid. It may help your gastritis.

Also avoid acidic foods and spicy foods. For the tietze syndrome we usually have patients take anti-inflammatory medications, but that may worsen your gastritis so try some ice packs to the sore rib areas as ice acts as an anti-inflammatory. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water and avoiding alcohol and caffeine to help relieve your headaches.

I hope you get some answers and relief soon.

Brief Answer:
sucralfate

Detailed Answer:
hello again, no that is why I suggested trying it. It acts in a very different way, coating the gastric system. It should not affect heart or lower blood pressure.
