Brief Answer: Avoid Friction & tight clothing; Peeling agents Detailed Answer: Hi there. If Amyloidosis, I am sure a skin biopsy & histopathology will have been done as the duration you say is 15+ years. If not, this is probably the first line of intervention to try & pinpoint the type of amyloidosis. Steroid ointments may provide temporary respite. Solutions may not be easy to be honest but prevention will certainly help. If using a 'loofah', 'coir' or any other implement while bathing or in the habit of rubbing one's skin with any such implement, please STOP immediately. Friction Amyloidosis of the skin is the most common precipitator & perpetuator. A local application of an aloe vera based cream like Elovera may help if used regularly & constantly especially as a moisturiser post bathing. After taking a look at your pics, perhaps this can be coupled with a mild peling agent like Glyaha-HQ lotion that may help your folliculitis resolve. If in Bangalore or the vicinity, a hands-on consultation may be useful or you may use this HCM web-site to source a dermatologist/cosmetologist nearest you. Best Regards & hope this was helpful & wish you a clear skin. Dr Praveen Rodrigues MD

Brief Answer: Yes to moisturiser; NO to Oils & facials Detailed Answer: Hi there XXXXXXX Yes you may use a moisturiser; Oil is a tricky issue...some oils may actually aggravate your condition especially if 'massaged' into your skin..so best avoid them & stop if you have been doing so hitherto. Facial or beauty treatment could aggravate your case especially when in an active form..so best avoid. I have always championed natural beauty & asked my patients' to use 'natural' products. Good Luck & hope I have cleared all your doubts. I understand it is a long haul & it may be frustrating at times, but it will get better & do wish you a clear skin soon. As I said, do meet a dermatologist near you for best results & feel free to use this HCM site to source one out. Dr Praveen Rodrigues MD
