default
Posted on Thu, 13 Apr 2017
Question: Hi,

I have a had a bleed in both my nostrils since Tuesday but worse in the left nostril. I am currently on antibiotics for a sinus infection with today being the last day as well as getting over a very bad cold that had me coughing and blowing my nose constantly. The bleed seems to have been getting worse over the last few days. I am a smoker as well but havent had any blood when I cough.

Below are pictures attached. 1- tuesday 2- thursday 3- today (this was not blown out but "loogied" out ie: from nose to mouth then spat out) the blood in this pic came out as shown below, but when spread out in tissue it was all red blood

Brief Answer:
Bleeding from the fragile mucosa due to vessel damage.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using Healthcaremagic to post your health query.
I read carefully your question and I understand your concern.
I saw carefully your photos.

Bleeding from the nose and after/during a viral infection with congestion from the nose, happens because of the damage of the blood vessels of the mucosa. They are placed in the surface and so become very fragile.

The fact that you have bleed from many days in a row is because once a vessel has been damaged, it hasn't had enough time to recover.

Try to not blow your nose.
Apply Vaseline by using a cotton tip in all the area of the mucosa that you can reach.

Hope this is helpful and makes sense.
Let me know if you need more clarifications.

Regards,
Dr. Papaqako
