Suggest Treatment For Side Effects Of Chemotherapy Drugs

Question: Dr. Indranil XXXXXXX

     Thank you for your concern!

We convinced XXXXXXX that she should go through with the chemo-therapy. She has a pre-op physical and a stress test scheduled for Wednesday October 21 and the catheter procedure on Thursday October 29. After that they will schedule the chemo-therapy. All she knows is that it will be scheduled for Monday and Tuesday for 6 hours each day. She will have a rest period for 2 weeks and then continue the Monday and Tuesday schedule. Is that the standard protocol?

We have several questions that you may help us with. XXXXXXX has coronary artery calcification of the LAD and has type 2 diabetes. Is the artery calcification the reason for the stress test? What would that tell the doctor? Will these conditions make the recovery more difficult? Is there anything that XXXXXXX can take or do that will help to reduce the problems associated with the chemo?

Please do not close this question as we would like to continue to ask questions as XXXXXXX goes through her procedures.

thanks
XXXX

Brief Answer:
the chemo medicines are important

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for follow up.

More than the schedule, the medicines given for chemo are important. If you can get hold of those then please inform me.

The stress test is for the cardiac fitness. This is because some meds can cause cardiac dysfunction. If heart is damaged to start with then we replace those meds by some other ones which are safe for heart.

Otherwise she needs to maintain her diet, take precautions to avoid infections. She will be provided guidelines from time to time by her treating team. Medicines to prevent vomiting and prevent fall in white cells count will surely be administered.

Hope this helps.
Regards
