Suggest Treatment For Severe Vomiting And Nausea When Diagnosed With A Stomach Flu

default
Posted on Tue, 27 Sep 2016
Question: I'm a 48 year old female that thought i had a stomach flu about a week ago but am now concerned with continuing symptoms and wondering if I should seek medical attention today, ie, go to the ER, or make the soonest appt. i can with my doctor..... I had one night of moderate to severe stomach cramping with some nausea and vomiting -last thursday. I rested, ate very little besides some clear soup and oatmeal when I felt hungry and most of they symptoms subsided in about two days after the episode except for a continued general feeling of tenderness in my abdomen. i awoke last night with the same moderate to severe stomach pains - like cramping - it moves around my stomach- is both above and below my belly button - with the focus of pain changing location. am i safe to get in touch with my doctor on tuesd. and get in to see her or should i be heading to an emergency room today in case theres something serious happening?

Brief Answer:
here are some ideas to help you decide

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
It is always difficult to decide how quickly you need to be seen with abdominal pain.
The fact that the pain moves around is actually reassuring. Most serious abdominal problems cause a severe pain in one area.
However, if the pain is severe you should be seen today.
If you are not able to keep foods down or if vomiting is severe you should be seen today.
If you have fever you should be seen today.
If the pain is fairly mild, you have no fever and you are able to keep foods down you can probably wait to see your doctor on Tuesday.
If you are uncomfortable and just want to be seen it may also be an option for you to be seen in an urgent care today. They usually can see you more quickly than it takes to be seen in an ER.
Please let me know if you have further questions.
