Suggest Treatment For Severe Sore Throat And Blocked Sinuses

default
Posted on Tue, 2 Feb 2016
Question: I have just had Flu, with severe sore throat, blocked sinuses. I have been taking over the counter decongestants/drinking plenty of fluids and taking paracetamol. 3 days ago I noticed my ears seemed blocked, I have had pain in the right ear, headache and now have tinnitus, the ear pain seems to be resolving, but the headache, tinnitus and muffled hearing persist - Is this a middle ear infection needing antibiotics, or will it resolve spontaneously?

Brief Answer:
Examination with ENT specialist is well appreciated.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM

I have gone through your query. Your symptoms can be due to middle ear infection. Examination by ENT specialist is well appreciated as if you wait for spontaneous recovery there can be possibility of getting complications.

Antibiotic therapy will be needed in case of positive signs of bacterial infection in ENT examination. Your auditory tube could be blocked also. Local nasal decongestants like xylometazoline (otrivin) nasal sprays will be helpful for his.

Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.
