Hello,

I looked at the picture you uploaded and see the small red mark on the left side of your abdomen. It's possible that you did bruise this spot without realizing it, perhaps by bumping into something. Unless there is increasing pain, or the area becomes hard and is expanding, I don't think there is need to worry.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information.

Thank you. It feels like I'm pressing on a muscle I think. How do I know it's a hernia?

Detailed Answer:
If you were accidentally poked where the red spot is, the rectus muscle may have been bruised a bit.

With an umbilical hernia, the most common sign is a bulge or swelling in the area of the belly button. You may be able to see the lump, or you may feel it when you gently press on your navel. The bulge may get bigger when you bend, cough, or strain to have a bowel movement. The bulge may get smaller and hurt less when you lie down. Another possible symptom is pain or burning in your abdomen. The pain may get worse if you cough, sneeze, lift, or stand for a long time.

I am 56 years of age and had an inguinal hernia repair in December of 2009 since then I find it difficult to maintain and erection when making love and also, my ejaculate is very thin and watery. Is this a sign of infertility and also, from the hernia operation?

My left side is very painful, it's under my ribs and into my back, it hurts to sit and drive my car or lie down, my dr did a CT scan and it came back okay, no kidney stones, I was hurting more internally but now the pain is hurting on the outside and very painful to touch or even bump up against something, I had a UTI but that is now cleared up. My Dr is not sure what it could be, I would like to see a specialist to see if they can help but I'm not sure what type to go to? Pain Managment, GI? I've had some heartburn along with this and at times feel nauseus, this is very painful and I'm unsure what to do at this point, any advice would be greatly appreciated. I wasn't sure if it could be my colon, or a hyatel hernia, possible even gallbladder, the urgency care did an xray of my lungs and didn't see any fractured ribs, and the only thing they found on the CT scan was that I had an umbilical hernia that I need to get taken of but that is not where my pain is located.

How long after an umbilical hernia tear does the bulge appear? I just noticed this bump yesterday and today it is a bit more sore. Could it be like a cut that you have then only after you notice it starts to hurt? I am pretty sure I got the hernia from abs crunches in the gym last week.
