Brief Answer:
Age related articular degenerative discs likely, Need work up

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Lower back pain on and off at an age of 62 is likely due to age related articular degeneration or an intervertebral disc prolapse, a musculoskeletal or a ligamentous sprain, Osteoarthritis etc.

Advancing age, lack of exercise leading to weakening of back muscles, improper lifting of weights etc are some of the commonest triggers of such pain initiations.

You are already on Aleve and heating pad and pain is still there means its time to get evaluated with slight work up. MRI scan of lumbo sacral spine is advised and should be done to rule out any nerve entrapment or any other issue causing the pain. Other work ups like bone scans, blood work up etc may follow up the MRI if inconclusive to search for other probabilities like prostate etc.

Your doctor may need to boost your pain killers and replace it with stronger ones with some muscle relaxants to see if they help.

Alternative measures like chiropractic, yoga etc are also help ful so you may try them meanwhile you get an appointment. Lying on flat surface straight will help the pain and relieve the discomfort.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Regards
Khan
