Suggest Treatment For Severe Jaw And Face Pain After Root Canal Treatment

default
Posted on Thu, 13 Aug 2015
Question: Last Tuesday i got down with a sore throat, loss of voice, fever, mucus stuck in upper airways - basically rode it out and was better in WE - had injection for lower back pain on Monday morning and this Tuesday evening a bridge repair (incl 3 root canals) for bridge on lower right side (attached to wisdom tooth that had the root canals) . Removing the bridge took some severe pulling, total treatement took approx. 2,5 hours. On Wednesday my right jaw and face hurt a lot - took Asprin 500 every 2 hours - got better on thursday but couldn't open my mouth far enough to eat, at noon switched to Brufen 600 - just now woke up right jaw, under jaw and cheek swollen, lips tingling, pain bearable but still prominent - dentist not in office today - should I go to GP for antibiotics or just stick it out for WE?
Am female, 62, last year had total knee replacement, on medication for high bloodpressure and low dose Gucophage for typr 2 diabetes, 172 cm 105 kg

Brief Answer:
May be faulty RCT,start antibiotic also

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing in.

The swelling, pain and tingling are not common after root canals. Perhaps this one is due to post traumatic swelling or faulty Root Canal Treatment. In my opinion, you need to get IOPAR done of associated region to rule out exact cause.

I feel you should see your GP and start better antinflammatory agents with seratiopeptidase combination along with antibiotic. You can take this further thereafter as soon as dentist comes back.

Hope I answered your query

Wishing you good health
