Question: I was awakened a couple nights ago with a sharp pain in the center of my right eye and now it is very bloodshot. I seem to have slight hayfever as well. Could allergies do that or could it be something else?

I can understand your concern.
Possibility of allergic etiology is more likely.
But you are already taking anti allergic drugs and still not improving.
So better to consult ophalmologist and get done clinical examination of eye to rule out any internal pathology.
If internal eye examination is normal, then you will need eye drops containing antibiotic and steroid for relief.
