Question: 5 yr old daughter has severe ear pain, red ear and is complaining of jaw pain. Haveapplied hot compress and administered ibuprofen

It is may be middle ear infection or acute throat infection.

Hi, thanks for writing to us.

By the symptoms and signs you have specified, your daughter may have a middle ear infection (acute otitis media), or she might have an acute infection of the tonsils, the pain which is getting referred to the ears because they both have the same nerve supply.

In either of the case it’s better to get her examined by a pediatrician or an ENT specialist , the doctor who deals with the problems of ear nose and throat.

Your child needs antibiotics and painkillers.

Kindly take her to a doctor for better care.
