Question: Hi - I have had severe diarehha for 24hrs - what should I do? Most recently it has tiny black specks (like ground pepper)

Hi.
Thanks for your query and the picture which is showing the black specks like ground pepper. Understood that the diarrhea is severe and present for 24 hours.

I would advise in such a situation the following:
- First of all send the sample of stool for Lab test and also the blood and stool.
- You need medicines: loperamide if the frequency is too much, antibiotic, probiotic, and supportive in the form of a PPI, activated charcoal, Electrolyte solution (powder) and so on.
- The needs a prescription and a clinical evaluation hence it is better to meet your GP or go to the ER.
- The black specks like ground pepper is an undigested food and nothing much to worry about it.
- Also take curds / yogurt / bananas.
- Intravenous fluids and injection may be necessary if your Doctor feels so.
