Question: My son (4) has been having diarhhea (3x a day, small amount, XXXXXXX texture, light brown) for about 8 days, last night he seemed to be dehydrated (lathargic, not wanting to wake up or eat) and after drinking aome pedialite, bouced up and felt better. Then he had 4 to 5 more rounds of diarhhea and went to bed.

This morning, we took him to urgent care and the doctor said he had a blockage and pescribed miralax. Then tonight, he sat on the toilet for a good while and passed a lot of gas and his poop was really light brown, almost white in color.. I am worried.. I gave him his miralax a few moments ago and now I guess all I can do it wait for the blockage.

The pharamist said it could take a couple days, but if he isnt producing enough bile, is it dangerous? What should I look out for

Brief Answer:
No need to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Usually after an episode of diarrhoea it is common to get white stools. This is because all the bile is lost in diarrhoea which should have been reabsorbed if there was no diarrhoea.
But don't worry.
No treatment is required.
Bile flow will start soon.
Its not dangerous.
Avoid further miralax. Ensure he drinks plenty of liquids to keep him hydrated.
Wishing your child good health and speedy recovery.

He has a blockage, thats why he needs the miralax. The loose stool is going around the blockage and coming out white.

Miralax has over 600 reports of causing brain disorders and neuarogical conditions so I dont want to continue it. What else can I do, maybe alternatively to clear out his blockage?
