Question: Hi Doctor,
I have been suffering anxieties on and off since my late twenties, I am now forty six years of age.
Three years ago the anxieties and panic attacks hit me really hard, and I also developed depression, I was prescribed various anti-depressants which did not agree with me but one year and nine months ago I was prescribed the deadly drug AROPAX which did help with the depression. While on Aropax I had severe daily panic and anxiety attacks, I also was taking valium every day for over a year while on Aropax, my doctor advised me to take a higher dose until I was on 50mg of Aropax, my anxiety symptoms worsened, I had enough and started tapering off the valium and then the Aropax from 50mg to 40mg and so on, when I got to 30mg, my panic attacks became unbearable, took a lower dose of 25mg, the 10mg for a couple of days and then nothing, I had all the flu symptoms, nausea, severe dizziness etc for a few days and then IT HIT ME, severe irritibility and anxiety, severe muscle cramps, could not sleep or keep still, felt like my body was going to explode, I have taken some valium again but no help, my mother took me to hospital and we waited and waited, it obviously wasn't urgent enough (even though I had collapsed due to the severity of the anxiety),
I guess anxiety is not an illness to a lot of people. I do have an appointment with my GP today and she did suggest last time that it might be a good idea for me to stay in hospital under the watchful eye of a psychiatrist to get the right medication for me. I have no triggers and no reason to be anxious at the moment, I know it is due to coming off Aropax but how long will the nightmare last? I cannot eat, keep still, shower, look after my kids, etc. it's been a week of hell but everyday is the same, I don't understand why it doesn't get a tiny tiny bit better, every day is the same, I hate anti-depressants, I don't understand!!!
So so sorry for the long letter, if you have any suggestions or opinions it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you soooo much. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
More Disciplined treatment required.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,XXXXXX,
Welcome to HCM.
I am Dr Rakesh Sharma answering your query.
I have gone through the details of you problem and treatment you took for over the years.
I can understand your concern.
The medication you took are good, but now I suggest you to go for a more disciplined treatment, as rightly suggested by your GP, admission and treatment.
Getting admitted and treated will be the right thing as you can be observed for all your complaints.
The dose and the drugs can be changed or adjusted, on daily basis.
I have seen in my patients that Yoga and Art of Living have done good to their
sufferings and feelings. They cut down the requirements of medicine to minimum.
If I were your treating doctor I would have advised you to try the same for few weeks, along with minimum medication.
Hope I have answered your query, if any thing else, you are welcome or you can close the question by rating the answer.
Good wishes.
