Suggest Treatment For Severe Acid Reflux And Heartburn
Question: I had acid reflux two years ago.I took Nexium ,gaviscon tums every day. I had heartburn every day. So I change my eating habits,since a year ago I don't have any heartburn and don't take any medication anymore.The problem is that I have secretions in m'y throat a lot. My doctor said that I still have acid reflux but I don't have any heartburn. Very annoying for me. What do you think?

I read carefully all your concerns and I can say as follows:
1. Your recent symptoms are secretions on your throat.These symptoms may be due to :
- Farinigitis/ acute throat infection/ sinusitis
- LPR (Laryngopharyngeal Reflux (Silent Reflux)
2. LPR is similar to acid reflux and is caused by acid reflux but different to GERD symptoms, it is not associated with heart burn or other classic symptoms.
Otherwise If I were your treating doctor first of all I would recommend to consult ENT specialist and rule out ENT issues.
3. Meantime I would suggest :
- continue Nexium and gaviscon use
- Elevate the head of the bed about 4 to 6 inches.
- eat often and small amount of meal
