Suggest Treatment For Severe Abdominal Bloating And Gas

Question: Hello Doctor,

I am struggling with stomach gas and infection.
I was having the problem of stomach gas and bloating since last one year. Which I could make out as an infection but doctors didn't agree as there were no other symptoms like loose motions etc. So, based on previous incident with similar symptoms I took Tinidazole tablet for 5 days twice daily(about a month ago). After which the symptoms were fully recovered and I felt better.
Now, last week I ate outside and since then I am feeling same symptoms of stomach gas and bloating with slight vomiting sensation. So, shall I repeat the course of Tinidazole again? Keeping in mind that I did the course only a month ago. Or you prescribe some other medicine? Also suggest why my stomach is so sensitive to these infections as only I got it even when my whole family ate outside with me.

Thanks,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
What's do your doctor's feel is the cause of this problem???

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I am not convinced either that you could be suffering with infection especially when you don't complain of bowel disturbances. Since your doctor's don't agree to infective etiology, what do they think is the cause of your problem.

Commonly bloating and abdominal fullness especially after food could be due to dyspepsia / gastritis or even acid reflux. Sometime H pylori (bacteria) infection of stomach can present similarly; and yet this bacterial infection should be treated with a course of 2 antibiotics and acid lowering drug. The antibiotic prescribed sometime include tinidazole.

It doesn't mean you are infected with H pylori. I only mean we should be first looking in this line (dyspepsia); later on H pylori infection. If both these are ruled out, then other possibilities can be considered.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need clarifications.

Regards
