Suggest Treatment For Seizure Disorder

default
Posted on Mon, 13 Apr 2015
Question: Hello. I've relocated. Am a XXXXXXX I have my prior PCP medical records. I waited 3 months for my first visit with a new PCP. I've had a seizure disorder since childhood and take med for it. However, the new (and now, ex) PCP states he prescribes no class 4 meds, at all. How can I find a doctor that meets my documented needs, without having to toss a coin AND waste more time. The local hospital ED gave me enough med for 1 month, however, I have no idea how to find the doctor I need. Please advise; if it helps, I'm a retired RN, but, not in the state I've retired in. Thank you very much.

Brief Answer:
Try consulting a neurologist before meeting primary care

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand you are in dire need of epilepsy drugs. As a physician associated with department of neurology at my hospital, I have been involved with multiple epilepsy management and from my experience I wish to state that every day diazepam isn't necessary. Most epilepsy disorders can be managed with just antiepileptic drugs. One can add another drug such as phenytoin or carbamazepine or levitiracetam if depakote isn't alone sufficient. Therefore in my opinion, you should rather consider consulting a neurologist or epileptologist who can rationalize epilepsy drugs according to the need.
Furthermore, if every day diazepam is absolutely necessary, I am sure the new neurologist will be able to prescribe them without questions unlikely a primary care physician.

As a fellow healthcare provider, I feel I have given you the right direction. Let me know if you think otherwise.

Best Regards
