Suggest Treatment For Restless Legs Syndrome

default
Posted on Thu, 2 Feb 2017
Question: My son is travelling shortly and he has been prescribed Xanax for restless legs - long flight and gets restless legs when sitting down too long - not when laying down. Is that ok to take - he has never had it before, worried about side effects and whether it would be effective. Any more natural treatments? Thanks for your reply

Brief Answer:
I think NO

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

I think Xanax should be given three days in familiar environment as few individuals develop excessive sedation which could be detrimental to his plans during travelling.

Although since his doctor prescribed it and he may have considered all pros and cons of Xanax but I feel it should be used for atleast three days so he can know the response to xanax and can take appropriate decision when needed during traveling.

Antihistamines are also effective for restleg legs and it is possible that he may get required response from his allergy medications. In addition ask him to take foods with high iron and calcium intake as calcium and iron deficiency are the known causes of restless legs.

I hope this answers you.
