Question: One of my big toes has gotten very red and sensitive to the touch. Toe nail seems a bit "looser" than other toe. Some kind of infection?

Yes, it sounds like an infection. It may be caused by ingrown nail or by other infections especially if you are a diabetic. In such cases,local antibiotic ointment won't be very effective. You should have amoxicillin orally for 5 days and have salt baths of toe in warm water few times daily. Wish you good health. Regards
