Brief Answer:
Herpes simplex: various suggestions and guidance.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome and thanks for posting your query to the forum.

I can understand your concern for herpes in yourself and I am quite empathetic to the same.

To tell you medically - There are two types of herpes. The one at or around mouth known as herpes labialis caused by HSV 1 and the other is herpes genitalis caused by HSV 2.

Herpes lesions manifest itself as small vesicles (fluid filled blisters) which remains for just a day or two and then forms ulcers which are quite painful. These ulcers then heals in next 5-7 days.

The basic problem with this infection is that it is a recurrent infection and the antibodies to this virus are not protective enough to stop the further episode.

The virus remains dormant most of the time but as soon as the immunity is low then it becomes active. So it is during the active state that one gets the episode of herpes. There is no treatment which could cure this viral infection completely.

In my patients I suggest the preventive treatment with an antiviral drug. I prefer to use Famcyclovir 250 mg once daily for the longest possible time. It prevents the recurrent episodes till the time you take it.

Additionally I suggest my patients to keep immunity boosted up. Protect yourself form sudden change of environment especially cold environment. Do not take more of stress as emotional stress always predisposes for recurrence.

Take nutritive healthy diet and eat lot of yellow and red fruits to increase the immunity of the skin.
