Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Chronic Rhinosinusitis

Question: Hi Dr, I suffer from recurrent chronic sinusitis or rhinitis from past 5 yrs .Before 18 months when I had pns ent dr told me that I have dns but I didn't go for surgery however my symptoms were getting frequent like headache on right side, nose block, fever because of infections, tenderness .6 months back I had pns and it revealed I have polyp with middle turbinates pneumatized.now again I am suffering from another cold attack with running temperature nose block loss of smell headache.now latest pns scan reveals again I have dns to left concha bullosa right maxillary sinusitis with polyp and middle turbinates hypertrophy.Is it high time I go for surgery .my ent told me to go for fess cum septoplasty.Will the surgery be my permanent cure for this anatomical deformities?.

I have read your query & understand your concerns .

As per clinical history , you are having DNS with middle turbinate hypertrophy with chronic rhinosinusitis .

I would advice you , go for surgery as your ENT surgeon suggested . It will remove anatomical obstruction & prevent future complication .
It will also decrease frequency of frequent attact of cold .
It is right time for surgery .

Hi Dr, can you tell whether my cause of nasal polyps was dns or some other thing . So after this surgery what are the chances of polyps reoccurring ? Also how to prevent them

Thanks for the follow up query .

Because of DNS to left , the middle turbinates gets pneumatized (concha bullosa) on opposite side . It cause decrease ventilation , leading to maxillary sinusitis (Infection & inflammation) with polyp formation .

Chances of polyps reoccurring depends upon patients compliance with regular treatment , allergy & surgeon experience .

To decrease Chances of polyps reoccurring , you need to use
Regular Saline nasal rinse or spray ,
allergy medication &
Regular follow up .
