Suggest Treatment For Rashes On Body Of 10 Month Old Child

default
Posted on Tue, 17 Mar 2015
Question: Hi,
My daughter is 10months old. From yesterday, she has a rash on her body. It started as small and now it is there all over back and just here and there in stomach and around shoulders. Mainly in the area which is covered by dress usually. It looks like a heat rash or rash due to allergy. We have not tried any new dress or food. However the climate is more hot these days.
I would like to know if it is required to take to doctor immediately. Also is there any home remedies that we could do. Will it help if i give bath twice a day.

Note : Her skin is of dry type. We apply moisturizing cream after bath.

Please see attached photos for reference.

Looking forward to your advice.

Regards,

Brief Answer:
I suggest a possibility of Miliaria/ Prickly heat

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I have reviewed the Images.

I can see a diffusely scattered, tiny, red, raised bumps with some of them appearing to be shiny and seem as if they are capped by a clear fluid filled head.
I suggest a possibility of Miliaria Or Prickly heat. I guess it must be itchy.

Miliaria is due to blockage of sweat ducts.
Some people are more prone to miliaria than others specially in hot and humid weather conditions.
Miliaria is most common in children as their immature sweat glands are more prone to becoming blocked.

You may apply a soothing lotion for her, twice or thrice daily e.g calamine lotion.
Avoid further sweating as much as possible. Let her stay in an air conditioned environment for a few hours everyday.
Bathing twice or thrice daily with cool water would help as well.
Use loose fitting cotton clothing for her.
You may use an OTC topical steroids to sooth the rashes if it is too itchy.
An OTC oral antihistamine e.g syp cetrizine 10 mg once daily will provide her symptomatic relief from itching.
