Brief Answer:
kindly immediately consult a physician for allergic reaction

Detailed Answer:
Hello ,
Thanks for writing in to us at hcm.

This is Dr.Riyanka and I am glad to be helping you with your query.

Steroid shots are usually given in severe conditions of eczema.

Sometimes steroid shots can cause skin rashes and purple tiny spots on skin for which you should consult a physician IMMEDIATELY and also to rule out other causes of rashes all over the body. Please also check if you have swollen feet or vision problems because if the rashes are associated with this you need to consult a doctor immediately.

Also other steroid-free topical medications like pimecrolimus and tacrolimus are equally effective in treatment of eczema. Thus steroids can be avoided because of their long term other side effects.

About zyrtec, it is an antihistaminic (cetrizine) which usually doesnt not have side effects of causing rashes. It only makes the person feel sleepy.

Therefore , at present i suggest you to kindly immediately consult a physician as i think the rashes and purple spots are due to allergic reaction of cortisone shots.

Hope this answers your query.

I went to ER and they said it was contact dermatitis and gave me prednisone tablets. I have no ideal what it was, when I woke up this morning my face was red and puffy on one side and looked more like exema. ER said that the itchy spots were not welts like a drug reaction. They did some blood tests and said that was okay but my blood pressure was high and since it was a month ago since last cortisone shot that was not the problem. I do not like more steroids.

Brief Answer:
Mostly it is an exacerbated episode of contact dermatitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello madam,
Thank you for the follow up question to hcm.

I understand your concern. Kindly stay calm .
Mostly it is an exacerbated episode of contact dermatitis then. Kindly continue with the prednisolone tablets. In a day or two you shall be fine .

Kindly contact your dermatologist if you are not able to take steroids. Your doctor shall give you non steroidal medication which is suitable for you.

As for contact dermatitis it is important to know the cause of it as in if it is due to chemicals, perfumes or medications. Therefore a 'patch test' may be required.

About high Blood Pressure kindly again get it checked by a physician for medication because at 58 years we can expect primary hypertension.

However, kindly do not discontinue prednisolone without doctors advice as sudden stoppage of steroids causes drastic side effects. Even if prednisolone is to be stopped, your dose will have to be tapered and then stopped.

Do not worry. you will get well soon.

Thank you,
Dr.Riyanka
