Suggest Treatment For Persistent Migraine And Vertigo

default
Posted on Tue, 2 Feb 2016
Question: Hi. My name is XXXXXXX I have been having some symptoms all weekend and have been trying to hold out til Monday to make an appointment but I can't sleep because now I've worked myself up into a panic. My lymph node near my left collar bone has been a little swollen for about a week and since I had no other symptoms, I just ignored it. But now, starting Friday, all the lymph nodes on my neck are swollen, I've had a severe migraine headache with horrible sinus pressure that no medication will relieve (taken a lot of Suphedrine for sinus pressure without drainage & alternating Excedrin Migraine & Aleve), I had small episodes of vertigo (leaning to the right) yesterday but none today, and now, I just noticed that my tonsils are deflated (and they have always been very large to the point where they almost touch). I also have bad tenderness at temples. Friday, my eyes were on fire and red but that went away as of Saturday. I'm beside myself with worry. My Mom and Uncle both have non-hodkins lymphoma and that's all I can think about. Also, probably unrelated, but will mention it in case it is important, I have an appt with my doctor in about a week concerning my nerves and muscles igniting and popping without pain mostly in my legs but also in my arms and all over my body. This has been going on for about a month. I have been taking some Potassium and it helped a little with the muscles moving and jumping but not entirely and my nerves are still jumping like a firecracker going off in certain places...again with no pain though.

Brief Answer:
You need a consultation from ENT for chronic tonsils infection !!!

Detailed Answer:
Warm Welcomes. I appreciate your trust in HCM and assure you are on best portal on the globe for expert online medical services.
I have thoroughly reviewed health query you raised, and well realize all of those concerns. Being your physician, I will take care all of them today and will extend my expertise to solve the problems.

You have actually a disease named Chronic Tonsillitis and Sinusitis. In this we have the infection of mucosal lining of the sinuses that are around the nose and in the frontal bone of forehead. Additionally your tonsils are infected. To understand it more in detail, I want to add that tonsils are the Policemen that have their checkpost in the base of mouth. They keep a check on anything going inside the body en route to stomach or lungs. If they get out of order and infected themselves, how can they protect others from pathogens. So you are having these chronic issues.

Why lymph nodes?
Most probably it is due to the infections I mentioned above. These lymph nodes are actually receiving drainage from face and base of mouth including tonsils. If there is infection in any of the draining areas of the neck lymph nodes, they get swollen. It is necessary to correlate it clinically and your Physician need to touch the nodes, examine physically and if needed may go for a biopsy or Fine Needle Aspiration testing of the cells inside them to see if there is any chance of malignancy.

How to proceed further:-
You need a thorough evaluation by an Otorhinolaryngologist to see if there is a need for the surgical removal of tonsils.

Keep a warm mist vaporizer with Vicks Pad in it in your room for soothing effect on respiration and it will also help you get better on sinus drainage of mucous that is also a cause of congestion.
Do nasal douches and gargles with lukewarm saline water to loosen the mucous and to get soothing relief from congestion and pain in head and neck areas.
If unbearable pain, you may take Excedrin Extra Strength by mouth after meals.

The neuro-muscular twitchings and other issues seem to be due to fluid and electrolytes imbalance. There may be deficiency of important nutrients, vitamins or minerals. Your Physician will run a battery of tests on you to see the reason and if needed he may also go for Nerve conduction studies.

Hope I addressed all the concerns you have. Let me know if you have further questions. I will be more than happy to clear any doubts. Please give your 'rating' (if agreed, Five Stars) to help me assist patients in a better way; and, please don't forget to click on 'Close The Discussion'.
For any disease you have, a timely follow-up is necessary regarding the treatment efficacy and to see if there is a need to change treatment options. So keep a follow up to see how you doing (Always write down my name in start of your questions at this forum & I will be with you in no time).
