Suggest Treatment For Persistent Cough And Fever

Question: Hi doctor,
My son has got cough and fever which is occurring intermittently since 5 days.
When we visited the doctor, he was given a nebuliser with Duolin respule.

He was given antibiotics which we gave for 5 days. But his cough has not gone down.Is everything fine? Scared mom...

I appreciate your concern.

If the fever or cough has persisted despite the antibiotics, then, an x ray chest PA view and blood cultures should be done to rule out any other cause.

Make sure children stay hydrated, and give them what they’re accustomed to drinking., try water, diluted juice, and milk.

If the fever is not continuous and high grade, if the child s O2 saturation is fine and the dyspnea is not severe , then additional cough meds or expectorants or a different antibiotic may be prescribed in consult with your doctor. Anti allergic meds and LRT 1 antagonist drugs may also be added to the regimen, if the child is relatively stable.
