Brief Answer:
For severe panic attacks medicines like BENZODIAZEPINES can help

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

You are 74 years old and have panic attacks. Sertraline is a drug that can help to reduce the symptoms of panic. But the drug cant help during severe panic symptoms. In such case if you have prescription then you can take drugs like low dose benzodiazepines like Alprazolam, Clonazepam or Lorazepam. Low doses of these drugs when used on SOS basis result in improvement of symptoms. I would advise you to call your psychiatrist and take either of these drugs in low doses and your symptoms would improve.

Relaxation exercises like breath holding exercise can help to reduce the heart rate and your symptoms will improve in severity. Progressive muscle relaxation exercise can also help in such symptoms.

Thanks, hope this helps you. Please don't hesitate to ask again for more doubts.

Take care
