Suggest Treatment For Painful Bump In Mouth
Question: It seems that I may have an abscess of some sort in my mouth. There is a painful bump inside my mouth on the upper right side just on the line where the gun line and inside upper lip meet. It's painful, swollen just below my right nostril. I do not have any real teeth, I had them pulled over a year and a half ago. I'm getting my dentures through the VA, but currently do not have any.
please advise if I should seek medical attention, and possibly what this could be.

As far as the swelling in the mouth is concerned, it can be a periapical abscess secondary to a tooth infection. But since you are telling there are no teeth, it can be a infection of the bone. So you need to consult a good oral physician and get it evaluated. You need to get a radiograph done to confirm the diagnosis. If there are any left out root pieces which are infected, it needs to be removed. If it is a bone infection, then you need to get incision and drainage done. Mean while you can take a course of antibiotics like amoxicillin and metronidazole (if you are not allergic). Do saline gargling.
