Brief Answer:
How long does this pain lasts?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for contacting us here at healthcare magic.

I will like to know for how long this pain lasts. This is highly suggestive of trigerminal neuralgia. If this is the case, the pain is usually brief, intense and wouldn’t respond to tylenol. The drug of choice is carbamazepine.

Please, kindly provide these details to help me further fine tune your diagnosis and provide more insights.

Kind regards and waiting!

This pain is intense and can last to up to a minute (-+). It varies. I have been using cold packs which helps to relieve it.

Brief Answer:
Happens when the nerve is compressed!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

This happens when the fifth cranial nerve is compressed. This may be compressed by a blood vessel, a tumor, a cyst, etc. In some cases, no immediate cause is identified. That’s why it is better to get evaluated and maybe CT/ MRI scans gotten to see if there are any discernible causes.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me if need be.

Hi Dr. Ditah.
I saw my doctor and his diagnosis was exactly what you said. He prescribed carbamazepine as well. 100 mg 2x/day. He wanted me to follow up on Monday (tomorrow) to see how I'm doing.
The drug makes me drowsy during the day, but the pain is diminishing. I am so grateful.
Thank you. XXXXXXX Quinlin

Drowsiness is a recognized side effect of carbamazepine!

Detailed Answer:
HI,

It is a recognized side effect of carbamazepine. This will regress as you continue with the medication. Keep me posted on your evolution on this treatment.
