Question: I have had a virus and now I am having pain in my esophagus. I take 10mg of Prilosec a day. I thought I would wait a couple of weeks and see if this pain clears up. No difficulty swallowing so I think the problem arose with the virus. Is this good thinking?

Brief Answer:
Yes,it is good thinking and probably caused by pharyngitis!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this virus you suffered from and the pain you have reported. Your thinking is okay and I agree that with you. I think the pains you have reported is suggestive of Pharyngitis. Viruses are the most common cause of this disease and am therefore not surprised that you have symptoms suggestive of this after a virus attack.

For now, you may take tylenol for pain relief. Continue with the prilosec and only seek further medical attention if you fail to improve within 5-7days. Also, keep me posted for continued evaluation and insights from me.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
