Suggest Treatment For Pain In Lower Leg Due To Peripheral Nerve Damage

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Jun 2014
Question: Hello, I am 50 years old, female, obese and needed a hip replacement. During the operation, the surgeon said they may have left the retractors on too long in one place, damaging the peripheral nerve. When they woke me in recovery, I couldn't feel my lower leg/foot and was in extreme pain. They took me back into the OR and
cleaned out some blood clots and checked to be sure they didn't sever the nerve. When they woke me the next day, they said if I couldn't move my foot (had foot drop) or the pain & numbness didn't get better within a few days, it would take a few years. I've had a neurostimulator implanted but it doesn't reach my foot/toes.
I was on pain med for a long time and theMD's thought I should give my body a rest and try therapy, which I've tried hypnotherapy, meditation, and the stimulator and I am miserable, can't sleep, have been in therapy for 2 years and don't see an end to this. I'm on 300mg Lyrica, Zoloft, Baclofen or Tizanidine & ropinerole.
Any advice would be so appreciated and grateful. XXXXXX

Correct diagnosis is must;EMG/NCV test helps

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for posting
I have gone through your suffering carefully and would try my best to resolve it.
The most important part of achieving successful treatment for sciatica is starting with an accurate and correct diagnosis. As I have found misdiagnosis of sciatic symptoms and is the usual reason for therapy to fail in resolving the painful complaint. This is especially true in your case when the patient has already tried multiple treatment options without success. You may get EMG/NCV study done for lower limbs to reach any diagnosis.
A multidisciplinary approach that combines therapies, however, can be a very effective way to provide relief from neuropathic pain.
My suggestion for you would be-
1. Knowledge therapy demonstrates excellent curative results for a wide range of mind body-enacted back and leg pain syndromes and its statistics for permanently resolving chronic pain are well documented in the literary offerings of such noted physicians as Dr. XXXXXXX E. Sarno, Dr. XXXXXXX Chopra and Dr. XXXXXXX Weil.
2. Injection Botox also helps in relieving chronic pain. You may search for facilities where these are given in your city.
Hope this helps and I shall be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
Dr.chugh
