Suggest Treatment For Pain In Diaphragm Causing Restricted Breathing

default
Posted on Mon, 10 Aug 2015
Question: Hello, I'm 23 and as long as I can remember If I lay down for an extended period of time my diaphragm starts aching and restricts my breath. I have to sit up and take a couple deep breaths for it to go away. It hurts at first when I start taking breaths and then subsides. I've been tested for hiatal hernia and the result was negative. My doctor thinks it's acid reflux but it doesn't burn or anything it feels more like an ache.

I have had an upper gi done, but I haven't had chest x rays done
From the time that this started I was young and so I don't think I've had an extremely stressful life. I have been stressed here and there but nothing out of the ordinary
as for burning I haven't had any problems with that

Brief Answer:
You should definitely consult pulmonologist.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Asthma is chronic, inflammatory disease. So patient needs to take regular inhaled treatment to control the inflammatory reaction in lung.
So to control asthma, one needs to take regular treatment.
Asthma worsening is common at night. And your symptoms are also at night. So possibility of worsening of underlying asthma is more.
And hence you need to start regular inhaled treatment. PFT (Pulmonary Function Test) will tell you about severity of the disease. And treatment of asthma is based on severity only.
So consult pulmonologist and discuss all these.
Hope I have solved your query.
