Suggest Treatment For Pain Caused By Bruise On Wrist

default
Posted on Tue, 16 Feb 2016
Question: Bruised right wrist now; 3 days ago, on awaking and pushing down to get out of bed, discovered that it was very weak and painful to use--probably even for shaking hands, but no pain when rested. Now, it seems to have resolved--ie can now use and no pain any more.

Any diagnosis, and comments?

1. Only on wrist and its back of hand. Bruises (a) are slightly on back of hand between knuckles of little finger and adjacent finger, running about 2 inches long towards the wrist; the more pronounced bruise (b) runs centrally from where the wrist bends, about 2 inches wide (above where the pulse is felt) and about 3 inches up the inner arm.
2. Sorry that i don't have a digital camera.
3. About 8 years ago, a plastic surgeon did a fasciectomy with z-plasty on my right-hand little finger to straighten the 'claw' caused by Dupuytren's contracture.
4. My regular medications are as previously listed: i can give you the exact dosages and times taken if you wish? If so, please let me know.
5. Not to my knowledge, other than deaths of my parents at 85 and 84 years. My mother died from a stroke, and my father from melanoma. My AF is being controlled by my cardiologist through the aforementioned medication.
6. Maybe very slightly warm and raised; but i imagine bruise (b) may soon disappear; bruise (a) has now disappeared. It all now functions normally.
7. The original pain when using the wrist only lasted about 14 hours (but no pain then when not using this wrist of my dominant hand).

Brief Answer:
Trivial trauma or bite

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thank you for getting back with the answers. Three most common causes include trauma, insect bite & hematological disorder. As bruise has resolved itself so chances are likely to be unintentional trauma or insect bite. I would suggest you not to worry and continue with your normal daily routine. You can take acetaminophen for pain (if occurs). IF in future such problem occurs again then we can proceed for systemic workup to rule out any pathology.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!

Thank you for your expert and brilliant information.

It is reassuring to know that it was probably a trivial trauma. Due to ULAR with temporary ileostomy bag/[removal of c.330mm of large bowel]/closure of ileostomy 10 years ago, i have very fast colonic transit and need to open bowels about every 2 hours at night; i probably put too much sudden weight on my outstretched right hand a few hours at night before i first noticed its temporary uselessness and pain (had to leverage myself from seated position to upright by forming a fist for right hand then).

Bruises have now almost completely disappeared.

Thank you for getting back. I'm glad to hear that bruise has resolved almost. Hopefully it will not reoccur. Yes increased weight can cause pressure symptoms.
