Suggest Treatment For Pain And Swelling On The Knee

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Jul 2015
Question: I have had some knee pain for a few months. After going to physical therapy, with no relief; I return to my orthopedic surgeon and was given a cortisone shot. I had this done on Tuesday. I had no relief and in fact, the symptoms (pain, swelling, etc.) have gotten worse. How long can I expect this to go on? I have read that sometimes the shot doesn't work? I don't have any other symptoms, but I'm worried because the pain and swelling are getting worse. Thank you for you help.

Brief Answer:
Infection in the knee needs to be ruled out.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
If the pain and swelling is increasing even after 5-6 days after the steroid injection then an infection in the knee needs to be ruled out. Usually the pain and swelling subsides after 3-4 days and the symptoms start improving gradually. You need to consult your orthopedic surgeon for a proper examination. Avoid weight bearing and any physical activity till then.
I hope this answers your query.
