Question: I am looking to speak to an Orthopedist. I just typed out my question. I have osteoarthritis in both knees. As of late both of my thighs have become really stiff making it almost impossible to walk. I started physical therapy and am being weaned off of steroids I used for another condition.

Brief Answer:
Hot pads can decrease stiffness.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Osteoarthritic changes are basically age related degenerative changes in the weight bearing joints like knee and is characterized by joint pain and stiffness. Upon movement the stiffness gradually relives. Sometimes application of hot pads can make the movement possible.
Weaning off of steroids can increase the inflammation but regular pain killers and physical therapy will help. You can get oral muscle relaxants prescribed to decrease the thigh stiffness.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.

Hi, doctor. I m writing on behalf of my elderly mother who doesn t know how to write. She has been experiencing intermittent palpitations that occur sometimes after she eats or in the middle of the night when she is asleep. They are so alarming that she awakens. She takes her blood pressure measurement when this happens and usually her pulse is elevated. The longest episode has been approx. 4 hours. Her medical history is: high blood pressure, tachycardia, thyroid, osteoarthritis and some stomach problems. She takes medication for all. The palpitations frighten her and she wants to know if they are serious to her health or if they will increase her chances of heart attack or stroke. All her medical tests are normal. I have limited information as I don t live with my mother. Thank you in advance.
