Suggest Treatment For Numbness And Pain In Thumb

default
Posted on Sat, 20 Feb 2016
Question: I have both RA and OA. However, my left thumb will suddenly (as in all is well before I sleep and far from well when I awake) swell, stiffen, become tender to the touch and movement is inordinately painful. Neither ice or anti-inflammatories seem to have any salubrious benefits.

Brief Answer:
It can be a gout attack.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM

I have gone through your query. Your problem can be most likely due to acute gout attack. Checking blood levels of uric acid will be helpful to rule out this. Colchicine therapy will be helpful to resolve the acute stage. And after it is resolved you can switch on to drugs like allopurinol.

A consultation with your physician is well appreciated.

Let me know if anything not clear. I am happy to help you.
Thanks.
