Suggest Treatment For Nodules On Thyroid And Hyperthyroidism
Question: Nodules on thyroid, and diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. My MD says avoid iodine my nutritionist says take iodine that iodine stabilizes thyroid. PTO=94 (TSH=0.020) (T4=7.6) (T4 Direct=1.54) Do not know which direction to go.

Iodine is used in the formation of the thyroid hormones, it is very important in their production.
This is the reason that your doctor would have suggested reduced intake- reduced iodine intake- reduced thyroid hormone production.
It is not involved in stabilization of the thyroid but in hormone production.
This uptake of iodine is the reason radioactive iodine is used to treat persons with very severe hyperthyroidism. Their very overactive thyroid takes up the radioactive iodine which then decreases the thyroid gland activity.
It is also the reason that persons living in areas with low iodine (not common now since added to salt), may have low thyroid hormone or other problems with the thyroid.
It would be best to take your doctor's advice, if you are still not sure then you may want to speak to him or her
