Suggest Treatment For Lump Near Left Ankle

Posted on Mon, 1 Jun 2015
Question: Hi, I am XXXXXXX and have a problem with my left foot. My right one not as bad but starting to feel signs like the left one. In the left foot in the hollow below the ankle near the heel I have a growing lump, which I have an appointment to have an ultrasound for, I feel I may have a ganglion as I had one in my right foot same area a few years back and had it taken out. I have an under active thyroid, am on blood pressure tablets. My left foot gets puffed up and it feels very tight and stiff to move, I have numbness in the heel and starting to spread underfoot, I find it sometimes hard to stand still or I have to support my self or sit down, they both from the shin downwards have a reddish tinge to the skin, and on pressing the skin it leaves an indentation. My Doctor has had me have full system blood check in which my thyroid was slightly up but nothing to worry about but did diagnose me having gout. I'm concerned mainly about my foot can you advise any further. Sincerely yours XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
You need to continue treatment for gout.

Detailed Answer:
Hello

I have read your query and seen image,

There is obvious swelling over feet.

You need to continue treatment for gout.
For gout you may need medicine like zyloric, allopurinol and newer febuxostat you can start then according to blood uric acid level consulting his treating doctor.

Food to be avoided in diet includes –meat and poultry. Alcohol.
Processed Carbohydrates
Processed carbohydrates and sugars take the place of healthy carbohydrates, such as fruits and vegetables, in your diet. Although no direct link has been established between sugar intake and gout severity, high sugar intake can contribute to obesity, a risk factor for gout. The fibre in fruits, vegetables and whole grains may also help carry excess uric acid out of your body.

You may need thyroid level correction.

If swelling is on both feet then cardiac check up may help.
You can consult me with your ultrasound report,if required we can do MRI foot to see for extent of swelling.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care.
