Brief Answer:
Venous circulation needs to be assessed....

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

From what I understand you have waxing and weaning limb swelling along with blotchy and perhaps red sores. It doesn't pain or cause an itch. I am not sure how long have you noticed it and if it pits to pressure. I assume you have had these for long while and it pits as you apply pressure with thumb. Please correct me if I am wrong and I can change my answer.

Based on these data, I consider venous blood flow disturbance to be the cause. Incompetent venous valves, certain medical drugs and malfunctioning heart and kidney are the common conditions that could cause this venous blood return issues. As you have no pain and itching, I don't think of venous clots. Neither does it need ER visit / immediate medical attention.

In this context if I were your physician, I would check blood pressure, peripheral pulse and your cardiovascular system. I would order for base line EKG, echocardiogram along with renal and metabolic panel screening. Your treatment and management will be based on the results of this test.

Accordingly, I suggest you call your local physician / GP and discuss about aforementioned possibilities/investigations.

In the meanwhile, it helps to keep limbs elevated; keep areas affected clean and dry; and avoid physically strenuous activities.

Hope this helped. I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Regards
