Suggest Treatment For Irritated Sore Itchy Scalp In Certain Areas On Body

default
Posted on Mon, 28 Sep 2015
Question: I have very irritated, sore, itchy scalp in certain areas that has only been diagnosed as a dermatitis. Can this cordran lotion be used on the scalp? I have a few precsription meds that I am trying to figure out if I should use them or toss them. In the past nothing really helped, as the Dr thought I had psoriasis. I kept them but if it's of no use for this condition, I'd like to throw them away. Luxiq and Clobetasol Propionate Topical Solution are the others. The Dr said my only solution is to stop itching or picking at the scalp. I need something to stop me from feeling like I have to. Thanks!

Brief Answer:
toss meds that are not helping

Detailed Answer:
Hello and I am sorry you are having this problem.
The medications Luxiq, clobetasol and cordran are all steroids medications. Often those will stop itching and can be used on the scalp, but may make the hair look greasy.
I suggest that you try nizoral AD shampoo. Wash your hair only twice a week. Shampoo with the nizoral AD shampoo leave it in for at least 5 minutes, rinse and repeat. It is important not to wash your hair more than twice a week. That dries out the scalp and makes it more itchy.
If you can not find nizoral AD shampoo at your pharmacy you can buy it onliine. It is expensive but I have used it on many patients with this condition and after a week or so the itching stops

Thank you! i was trying to find a shampoo that would help, one that didn't have a lot of chemicals. I believe I have seen nizoral AD and will try it. I was washing my hair every day with Head & Shoulders Itchy Scalp formula thinking I had to clean my scalp from bacteria. I was also told to try white vinegar & different essential oils like lavendar & tea tree oil. So what is the ingredient in nizoral AD that makes it effective?

Brief Answer:
ketoconazole

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
It has ketoconazole which is an antifungal but is also a great anti-inflammatory and a lot of the issue with scalp itchiness is inflammation.
I would avoid the white vinegar as it is drying. The tea tree oil and lavender will not hurt anything and may be helpful.
Good luck
