Question: I am 42 and am seeing dr for spotting and heavy bleeding. I received the results of my uterine biopsy and am confused because I am not on any hormones (birth control). I am on synthroid. I was bleeding when I had this done. Can you please explain these results to me:
FRAGMENTS OF ENDOMETRIUM WITH SECRETORY FEATURES AND DECIDULAIZED STROMA WITH

FOCAL STROMAL BREAKDOWN, CONSISTENT WITH FEATURES OF HORMONAL THERAPY

Brief Answer:
Irregular shedding of endometrium

Detailed Answer:
Hello mam, thanks for trusting health care magic.
I understand your confusion and anxiety related to the test report.
This report is consistent with hormone therapy but also seen in patients with irregular shedding of the endometrium which is very common in perimenopausal women and is the cause of heavy bleeding in your case.
This is common but you will need hormone pills for at least 3-6 months (preferably 6 months) to have relief from this problem.
But the good point here is that it usually responds very well to hormone therapy and thus easily managed.
Visit your gynecologist and get prescription for the same.
All the best
