Question: My son is asthmatic and takes one singular 10 mg per day and businsim a fluid in the machine morning and night he daily takes 1 1/2 teaspoon of children's benedryl at night and a clartin chewable in the morning. My question is would these medicines can trigger a child to develop a tick? In September 2015 he started nodding his head alot - i told his doctor. the doctor said it may be a tick ignore it if it continues there is medicine to give him. I told him no medicine i would perfer he see a neogorolist . Anyhow, besides the nodding of the head now he buckers his lips alot and now as of Saturday, his eyes and eyebrows are lifting uncontrollably - I asked my son you ok he said yes why i didnt say anything to him because he doesnt seem to realize he is doing it. im going to call his doctor today im just looking for another option.

Brief Answer:
clartin and benedryl may cause some side effec but need to rule out siezure

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us. I can understand your concern.

Some movement problem like hyperkinesia is a side effect of clartin while benedryl can cause convulsion. In is case these medicines are playing role or not that can be confirmed by correlation with onset of problem with medicine prescribed and by checking the continuity of problem after stopping the medicines.
Movement of lips and eyes/eyebrows without being aware suggest possibility of some seizure problem. Better to consult neurologist and go for EEG and MRI brain to diagnose exact problem.
Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.

Dr.Chintan Solanki.
